In the central cartouche of this classic box are two swirling dragons amongst foliage, holding jewels in their back claws and a wheel of Dharma, the Buddhist doctrine, in their front claws in between them. The field is filled with a kati rimo design, the latticework pattern typical of Chinese lampas brocades of the Ming period. The four corners are decorated golden scrolls, and the border is a geometric design of four leaves similar to what is know as the "Newari rice pattern".
