The eye is drawn to the front facing dragon in the central cartouche, which is surrounded by lotus flowers and holds round jewels in its claws. In the field is found a fine kati rimo or lattice pattern, so popular on Chinese brocades of the Ming period. Silver scrolls mark the corners and polychrome clouds adorn the border. This classic box is notable for its proportions and fine patina. It has an almost Medieval look.
