The decoration of this cabinet recalls the Chinese floral brocade pattern known in Tibetan as gya-se, which was used for decorative patches on the silk mounting for the thankas (Tibetan scroll paintings) and for ceremonial dresses in Tibet. Here, the artist has skillfully used silver leaf, rag dul, a brass powder mixed with mica, kyung bur, the raised gesso work, mineral colours and a final yellow lacquer finish to achieve a beautiful effect. The frames of   each panel are decorated with flower scrolls executed in kyung-bur. Along the top there is a carved meander border.
