Each of these four panels depicts one of the Kings of the four directions. These guardians or protectors are often found in the entrance of a monastery or temple. Each figure is seated on a tiger, leopard or cheetah skin with jewels in front of him. There are golden scrolls in the corners realized in kyung bur, the raised gesso technique.
