This box was most probably used for transportation. It was made with a wood structure, covered with leather and then strengthened with decorative iron around the top, bottom and sides and an elaborately carved iron straight up the middle of the front. The tan coloured patch at the center was probably covered with animal fur, which has worn away, and the two bone-shaped attachments allowed straps to pass through to tie the box onto the horse or yak. These were decorated with a line drawing of a dorje or vajra, a powerful ritual object used in tantric practices. Across the top of the front is a carved brass section. There are iron handles on the sides.
