This box is beautifully executed with much care and attention given to the style and palette. In the centre of a cinnabar red field is a beautiful composition of lotus flowers and leaves surrounding the main lotus branch, which holds up a golden bowl brimming with jewels. The corners are decorated with fine golden scrolls, and the border is a detailed kati rimo design of small flowers in a lattice pattern. Painted on canvas fixed on the wood. This box is one of a pair but they were separated and although of identical size and style, the natural patina and colour change is slightly different.
