The type of this cabinet is known as gya-ri in Tibetan, meaning "Chinese style" as, while it was almost certainly painted by a Tibetan artist for a Tibetan home, the inspiration for the design is definitely Chinese. The figurative panels seem to tell a story and in one panel a man with wings, crosses a bridge and offers a cluster of jewels, which represent the Buddhist dharma, to a man riding on a snow lion. The top two door panels would have held glass.
