This type of primitive figure, known as bhairaghi, (the one who has gone out) is found in the Middle Hill, Western regions of Nepal, especially in Humla and Jumla. This figure would have been made on the instructions of the local shaman, for a particular event or happening, often when the person had to leave the village. From the position of the hands and legs and the open mouth, one can see that the figure is worshiping, singing praises with the hands in the respectful "namaste" position.
