This couple of figures would most likely have been ordered by the shaman of the village, perhaps for a couple who were experiencing difficulty having children, or to bless the unborn child, so there would be no interferences with the birth. Both father and mother hold their hands in the typical "namaste" greeting stance and squat with benign expressions on their faces.

Another explanation is that figure on the stomach represents the local god and thus, the large figure is the shaman who has the power of god.
