TRIBAL 9 : Code M18
Trisuli, Nepal,
Early 20th Century
length 24cm / 8 inches

This mask is in the UK

This cow mask with its long wooden horns would have been used durning the festivals in this region of Nepal, North of Kathmandu. The mouth and nose are elaborately carved, and the head is decorated with carved patterns and signs. There is a natural wood patina. It is most likely a Tamang mask which is one of the ethnic groups in that region.
