OBJECT 3: Code SO17 & SO18
Central Tibet,
19th Century
dia.47 h.46cm

The size of these two wooden and brass jugs makes them an impressive pair. They would have been used to distribute tea to the monks in the monasteries in Tibet, during pujas (ritual ceremonies) performed in the Assembly Halls. Full of the traditional Tibetan butter tea, they would have been heavy, so each jug has two handles as well as a ring so that a string could be wrapped around the neck of the monk carrying the jug.
