This size of Tibetan rug was either used on a seat or as the top part of a saddle set. The background is red. This decoration of large lotus flowers, know as cheng den in Tibetan, was very popular and was inspired by Chinese brocades of similar designs. Typically, there is no border and, as in the case of the brocades, the lotus flower design is simply cut at the edge of the carpet. Wool weft, cotton warp. Natural and aniline dyes. |
